Italian Renaissance Art and Architecture
Jessica Maier, Visiting
Assistant Professor in Italian Renaissance Art, received her Ph.D. in
Art History from Columbia University in 2006. Her scholarly interests
include the representation of cities and of the built environment, print
culture, and cartography in Early Modern Italy. In her research she
focuses on the role of Rome in Renaissance visual culture as a lens
onto viewing practices, aesthetic tastes, and approaches to antiquity
in the sixteenth century. She has received fellowships including a Rome
Prize from the American Academy in Rome, and research support from Columbia
University, the Newberry Library, and other organizations. Before arriving
at Tulane, Jessica taught courses in the U.S. and in Italy for Columbia
University, Pace University, and Dartmouth College. Her publications
include a recent article on Leonardo Bufalini’s plan of Rome (1551)
that appeared in the journal Imago Mundi. She is currently at work on
a book tentatively titled “Imago Romae: Renaissance Visions of
the Eternal City.”
