Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of the Arts, or minor

The Bachelor of Fine Arts, usually abbreviated BFA, is the standard undergraduate degree for students seeking a professional education in the visual or performing arts. A Bachelor of Arts degree is also available.

The Newcomb Art Department at Tulane University has recently undergone an extensive renovation in all areas. Students earning a BFA with a concentration in Printmaking have opportunities to create images through a variety of printmaking processes. Students explore printing in varied colors, in different sequences of plates or blocks, on varied types of papers or other materials as well as uses of several printmaking techniques together.

The undergraduate program in printmaking has a strong emphasis on skills as well as ideas. The entry-level course challenges students with various techniques: linoleum, woodcut, collagraph, monotype, drypoint and engraving; a variety of conceptual issues; and many formal problems. Learning the techniques of printmaking enables students to express their ideas through a matrix or plate based medium that is inked and then transferred onto paper.

Areas of exploration include:
Woodcut
Etching
Screen Print
Lithography
