New Art, New Media, New Orleans
Back in October David Robinson and I finally had the chance to currate a new media art exhibition at the Carroll Gallery. The show - "New Art, New Media, New Orleans" - featured works by local artists and was staged in conjunction with the regional conference of the New Media Consortium.
Participating artists included: Gerald L. Cannon, Sandy Chism, Teresa A. Cole, Courtney Egan, Kevin H. Jones, Barbie L'Hoste, Josh and Emily Minnie, Matteo Neivert, Tae Hong Park, Blake Sanders, Cynthia Scott and David Sullivan.
Since "new media" is such a slippery concept, we asked the artists to self-define the term. The final works displayed the full gamut of possibilities: from traditional flat art (representing new media themes), to interactive computer generated art, to biological art, and even an electronic sound installation.
Much thanks to everyone who participated and helped, including especially Laura Richens, the gallery director, and the guys at the ILC, David, Don and Sheldon, for their diligent efforts in making all the technology work.
Photos of the exhibition are available on my Flickr account (as well as images of the exhibition setup and, a month later, the tear down).
