eKaqchikel 2008 - Slow Saturday

Sat, July 19 - Not much production work today. The teachers have all left town for the weekend and there's not much we can do without them. It also drizzled on and off all day. Ironic, because we have a weather module to produce this year and "rain" is one of the vocabulary words but it never rained hard enough to show up on camera - at least not in a way that sells the word "rain." We now find ourselves in the untenable position of hoping we get enough rain to photograph but not enough to wash us out. Good luck on that!
Valerie has begun loading her pictures to the Stone Center Flickr site. There will also be a link at the top of this blog entry and all subsequent entries. Needless to say, I've also loaded a new batch of photos. I've even produced several autostitches or panoramas. I do this with really great software created by Mathew Brown of the University of British Columbia - you should try it sometime. Not all of my samples from this year are winners but every once in a while something beautiful and unexpected pops out.
Marie, Valerie, Lee and Judith took the opportunity today to hire a boat to visit the hot springs on the other side of the lake. Boats aren't my favorite mode of transportation and since I'm not terribly comfortable when I can't touch bottom and still breath, I sat this one out. If they upload any pictures from the outing, I'll link them back here.
We were able to capture a few shots of the cloudy afternoon - another weather term for the vocabulary - so we got in a few minutes of critical production after all!
Update: As promised I've loaded a video clip from the Thursday night song and dance performance by our teachers. Very poor video and sound but I blame this on the dark, echo chamber room we were in. But you can see and hear enough to understand the liveliness of it all!
