Research
from the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) shows that elective
studies have a much larger impact if they are moderately focused around
an area of student interest. At Lusher High School, all students must
elect an Area of Concentration that will serve as a focus to elective
studies. Each Area of Concentration consists of a minimum of 4 elective
classes in a discipline, leaving students ample opportunity to explore
other areas. Students choose their Area of Concentration from the
following disciplines: dance, music, theatre, creative writing, musical
theatre, visual arts, math/science/technology, or humanities. Each
elective offering at Lusher falls under one
or more of these disciplines. A student may select to study as many
areas as his/her schedule allows. The course content at the Area of
Concentration level of study is a concentrated in-depth study providing
experiences beyond an introductory level. Within the arts, students
may choose to go further with their study through placement auditions
into a leveled
