Middle School
Visual Arts
Philosophy
Our
goal as Lusher Charter School visual arts teachers is; to promote
creative expression through concepts, techniques and materials, to
develop an aesthetic perception emphasizing critical analysis, and
to provide a context for studio projects and critiques with art historical
and cultural perspectives.
Expectations
Assessment
in middle school visual arts classes is based on the components of
attitude, effort, skill, innovation, and understanding. In grading
visual arts students, teachers will weigh each of the components equally
in determining a student’s overall average for the term. Though
homework is not routine, there are some instances where students will
be expected to work on home studio projects or to collect materials
to bring to class. Each visual arts student has a responsibility to
come to class on time, be prepared to create art, and bring the necessary
materials requested by the visual arts teacher.
Curriculum
Outline
Sixth
grade visual arts students will expand upon their art experiences
at Lusher Lower School exploring a variety of new media and techniques
taught through the use of examples in Art History, Non-Western Culture,

and terminology in group critiques periodically throughout each sixth
grade course. Courses offered at the sixth grade level include; Visual
Arts Studio, TAV (Talented in Visual Art), Painting, Drawing, and
Sculpture.
Seventh
grade visual arts students will continue their exploration of the
arts building upon their accumulated knowledge of materials and techniques,
art history, non- western cultures, aesthetics, and criticism with
emphasis on establishing a broad foundation of art experiences with
which to enter into the eighth grade visual arts program. Courses
offered in the seventh grade include; Visual Arts Studio, TAV, and
