Football

Lusher Charter School is establishing its first contact football team in school history. After spring practice and spring and summer conditioning, the Lions have taken to the field of competition this Fall with great fanfare. With the athletic skills, speed, and commitment of Lusher athletes, our new football program will be an exciting one to watch develop.

Flag Football

A perennial powerhouse in the Metro Middle School Athletic Association, Lusher’s flag football team has hoisted several city champion trophies in the past few years. The team is known for its speed and innovative play-calling, keeping the competition consistently on its toes. This fall, the 8th Grade Flag Football won the Metro Middle School Championship in double overtime, while the 7th Grade and the 6th Grade teams both advanced to the 2nd Round of the Playoffs.

Swimming

Even in its first year, Lusher Charter School’s swim team boasts some of the top swimmers in the New Orleans area at both the middle and high school level. Practicing in the early morning at Tulane University’s Reilly Center, the team represented the school at swim meets throughout the metro area, with swimmers qualifying for the Metro Swim Meet in nearly every event.

Volleyball

Volleyball has always been one of Lusher’s strongest sports at the middle school level, with several Lusher players going on to earn All-City, Region, and State honors in high school. With the expansion of the volleyball program into the high school, Lusher looks to build off of the middle school success and pull from the formidable pool of talent to compete. Fall 2006 saw the beginnings of Lusher High School competition, and the future looks very bright. The Lady Lions won the 8th Grade Metro Middle School Championship while the 6th Grade Lady Lions finished in 3rd place in the 2006 season.

Cross-Country

Over 100 Lusher runners participated in a recent fall meet, with several Lions finishing in the Top 10 overall.

Cheerleading

A recently restored sport at Lusher Charter School, the cheerleading squad, under the direction of a current NCAA cheerleader, has already been leading pep rallies and cheering on sports teams. The squad looks forward to more opportunities to spread Lusher Lions spirit.

A centerpiece of the athletic program at the Fortier campus is the refurbished Atlantik-Bruecke Community Resource Center (ABCRC) gymnasium on the Fortier Campus.
